The Final Four in Order

Team SlamCharlotte (Charlotte, NC)
Team NY Louder Arts
Team Austin
Team Cambridge Cantab

Here are the results of the newly formed (and experimental) Group Piece Finals. We expect some changes in this event for 2009, but general consensus is that this was a great event and one that should be repeated. Even the disqualified group piece will be talked about for years to come.

Henry Sampson, longtime NPS Tournament Director indicated:

Due to the late start of this bout, the procedure of the rounds was changed. There would normally have been 3 separate rounds, of 12, 7, 4, with each round starting as a clean slate. The middle round was cut out, and the teams went from Round One, to the Final Round, clean slate championship.

There are up to 84 team slots available this year. We do not have to use all of them. If we cut back, we cut back in groups of 4. So 80 or 76, etc.

Special Announcement: EC has decided to continue to accept applications from teams through June with the understanding that we can only accept new entries into the tournament in groups of four. All will be added to the waiting list and as we get to the next "magic" number, we will admit additional teams. If you think you missed deadlines, we can still get you in. If you know of others who think they have missed deadlines, we can work past that too. This is not a standard practice. This is a function of the EC voting earlier in the year to expand the tournament to 84 teams. This is not likely to be the case next year. No reason to expand the field if we don't fill it this year.

NOTE NOTE: There are no more applications being accepted. We will have a short waiting list of teams. Some teams have dropped out. We will end up with a field of 76 teams competing in NPS 2008 in Madison. That is the largest NPS to date. All applicants are in the contest. There is no waiting list.

Please know that the bout draw will not be posted at this time, and that any inquiries regarding your slam team’s name being on this list may take 24-48 hours to resolve as we are looking at each case thoroughly to ensure adequate processing of your apps.

Thanks for your patience, SlamFamily. We can’t wait to see you in Madison, WI!!
