How To Use QuickPwn 1.1 To Jailbreak iPhone & iPhone 3G 2.1 Guide

Posted by Alias420

These are step by step instructions on how to use QuickPwn 1.1 for Apple Mac OSX to jailbreak your 2.1 iPhone or iPhone 3G.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Step Two
Download QuickPwn 1.1 from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 2.1 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

iPhone 2.1 ipsw Download
iPhone 3G 2.1 ipsw Download

Step Three
Now double click to mount the QuickPwn [QuickPwn_1.1.dmg] archive that you downloaded above. Then drag the QuickPwn application into the Pwnage folder you created on your desktop.

Step Four
Now double click the icon to launch QuickPwn from your Pwnage folder.

Step Five
Click OK to accept the copyright notice.

Step Six
Connect your iPhone or iPhone 3G into the computer when asked, then click OK.

Step Seven
QuickPwn will now automatically detect the device that you connected!

Step Eight
QuickPwn will now attempt to find the latest firmware for this device

Step Nine
You will be asked if you would like to replace the original boot and recovery logos on your iPhone. Select Yes or No to continue.

Step Ten
QuickPwn will now build your custom IPSW.

Step Eleven
You will be prompted to enter your username and password. After doing this, then click OK.

Step Twelve
QuickPwn will now guide you on how to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Pay attention and do exactly as QuickPwn directs you. First, turn off the device.

Next, you will be prompted to hold both the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.

Finally, you will let go of the power button and continue holding down the Home button for another 10 seconds.

Step Thirteen
QuickPwn will now begin sending information to your iPhone.

Step Fourteen
You will notified that QuickPwn is modifying your iPhone. The process will take some time and will cause the iPhone to reboot. Do not do anything until the process has completed.

Step Fifteen
After your iPhone has rebooted it will be jailbroken and have both Cydia and Installer on the Springboard. Congratulations!

Username and Password? When do / did I set a username and password?
All the other steps seem golden.

Does this work on my iP which is on 2.02 (3G)?
But I guess this is not for Windows?

I could use a little more clarification on step 9. What does replacing the original boot and recovery logos do vs. not doing it?

The procedure worked for my iphone (German 16GB 2.1 3G), everything ran smoothly but afterwards the GPS was not working. I tried several things - reboot, reset, GPS location on/off, 3G on/off - no success. Just the rough estimate for the location in google maps. The GPS poblem was solved with a restore to 2.1 fimware. Seems I have to stay in jail to know where I am.

how did you do that? you can just make a restore in Itunes? won’t it brick it?
i followed the tutorial, i have now a jailbroken 16gb 3G 2.1 but i wonder what one must do in order to bring it back as it was before? in case of a service need or so…
thanks

With iTunes you can restore the original firmware - just connect, then you can select something like “restore” or “reset”, iirc there was a warning, then the iphone was busy for 2 hours and then it was in a brand new state and clean, as in “all settings gone”

sorry . Newbie here. What is jailbreak vs. Unlock ? Does this mean I will b able to use cydia but remain with AT&T ? iPhone 3g. 2.1.0 …. Thanks

No. leave it the way it was downloaded. Also, if you download with safari it will automaticly unzip it, you don’t want that. Download it with mozilla so it keeps the ipsw ending…

I tried pwnage tool 2.1 and it didn’t work, my iphone 3g couldn’t make or receive any calls; there was no “carriers” section in the settings page. so then i try this and the same thing happens, i can’t use my “phone”. So now i’m restoring my iphone and seeing if that will allow me to use my “phone”. :(

Thank you so much for this how-to. I tried multiple times to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G with 2.1. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually read what was on the screen. Once you broke it down for me into specific steps I saw where my mistake was. The long dark ***headdesk*** is over for me.

seriously does it work or not?

not enough support from the forums, and this is one of the more in depth guides out there.

but if it’s that simple.

Ugh. Awful luck with this so far.

2.1 first edition iPhone, downloaded all the files, and quickly realized this guide doesn’t give you all the information. Witness:

#1: Download the ipsw file using a browser other than Safari. Safari will open the package automatically, and you don’t want to do that. Use Firefox, and the ipsw file won’t open — once downloaded, put it in the folder you created.

#2, and this is important: KEEP ITUNES RUNNING WHILE USING QUICKPWN. Can’t stress this enough. I closed it while running Quickpwn, and after it was all done, my iPhone kept rebooting on the apple screen for half an hour, vibrating every two minutes. Had to restore. Keeping iTunes open should prevent this.

#3: Make sure you read the directions the entire way through before attempting this. You’ll have to push buttons on the iPhone during Quickpwn installation, and you have to know what to expect the very first time. I didn’t, and my iPhone was nearly bricked. It would’ve prevented three hours of additional restoring and rejailbreaking had I known.

Once installed, Quickpwn appeared to have worked, with the icons on my homescreen. After attempting to install a few programs using Installer, however, it rebooted forever again, requiring another restore. Tried three times, everything appeared kosher, and still nothing. Going back to unjailbroken 2.1…I’ve had enough.

Good luck!

I have a new iPhone - I can’t use it because its 02 and we don’t get O2 around these parts. I have tried doing all things stated above and still the Vodafone Sim is not allowed/recognised by itunes or the iphone (no signal) - assuming the iphone is able to pick up the vodafone signal like me old phone - I really really don’t know what to do

iPhone 3G (bought from Carphone Warehouse)
Operating System 2.1 (5f136)
Carrier (still O2 2.6)

If anyone can help great as my new toy is turning in to a flash calculator.

Can anybody confirm whether Jailbreak and the processes above actually enable your phone to work with other sim cards or whether you need to do some other type of unlocking to get it working

Thanks in advance for the confirmation

let me be clearer

I have tried to follow your instructions to the letter on unlocking/enabling my iPhone to not just work with an O2 Sim card but a Vodafone Sim card and it just doesn’t work.

iPhone 3G v 2.1
Bought from Carphone warehouse
Setup on Mac OSX leopard

downloaded:
iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw (237.8MB)
QuickPwn_1.1.dmg

Applications load on to iPhone but and it is recognised by iTunes but it still doesn’t recognise the Vodafone Sim as in it shows no bars of signals (it doesn’t reject as such). My other phone show 5/5 bars of signal so unless the iPhone has a bad aerial (and I have tried it on two separate ones) I just don’t know what I am doing wrong

Please help!!!

I have exactly the same problem. Had a bricked iPhone 2G after letting iTunes ‘upgrade’ it (it was previously jailbroken so iTunes bricked it). Ran QuickPwn 1.1 and it fixed the iPhone, but now I have no signal, iPhone says “No Service”.

Yeah! I found the solution: connect to a wlan and install BootNeuter with Cydia. Activate all the switch and you are ready to call!

if you having problems unlocking iphone original with 2.1 firmware. use quickpwn to jailbreak and use pwnagetool to creat custom firmware for the iphone. then go to itune and restore with the custom firmware. Easy as pie.

This works for a world of errors. 1600, 1601, 21, etc… It took me awhile to get this going but I finally am using tmobile with my iphone again.

If you are having difficulties with the dialer after jailbreaking your iphone 3g, you can uninstall Kate and it’ll work just fine after uninstalling. Greets.

AHHH! This isnt working. I downloaded the quickpwn 1.1 and it downloaded the restore file itself. It started doing its think and I did what it said on the screen with the pressing and releasing of the certain buttons at certain times. Now it appears to be stuck in this “sending” part of the installation and my iphone screen is off and its just hanging on that screen in quickpwn. What do I DO? PLEASE HELP!!!

If after the jailbreak you can’t make dial calls because the phone dialer freezes and goes back to the main menu, try this:

1- Uninstall Kate from Installer: this is what everyone recommends, seems to work for a lot of people but didn’t work for me.

2- Then go to Installer again and uninstall these apps:

A) Mobile enhancer
B) RIP DEV preferences

3- Reboot your iPhone.

That’s what I did and got my dial pad back again.

Hope this helps someone, I spent like three hours searching for a solution…
