So I was just watching FOX News, and apparently in Waycross, Georgia, there were 9 3rd graders who plotted to kill their teacher. The 8- and 9-year-olds from Center Elementary School plotted to kill their male teacher because he yelled at a girl for standing on her chair.
The plot was discovered when another girl saw a steak knife in a girl’s backpack and told teachers. The girl was talked to and spilled the plot. Each student had a roll to play in the plot, one of which was to clean up the blood. All the students have been talked to and suspended. Other parents are pushing for expulsion of the 9 students.
Although it’s not certain, I’d say that these kids would’ve tried to kill the teacher, not just injure him.
Now, here’s the insane part: under Georgia law, kids under 13 cannot be charged with a crime, so the most that could happen to them is expulsion and then spending time in a juvenile facility up until they’re 18. So a 12-year-old can kill somebody and not be charged? Like a 12-year-old doesn’t know that murder is wrong.
And here’s proof that the kids knew what they were doing was wrong: They HID the knives and other plot components (gloves, duct tape, hand cuffs, etc…) in their backpacks. They didn’t just carry them in. They didn’t BROADCAST their plot - they kept it SECRET. They KNEW what they were doing is wrong. If it were up to me, I’d never have had this law and would charge the kids with conspiracy to commit murder or conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon.
What would the teacher have done if 9 of these kids ganged up on him? Sure he could’ve taken on 1, 2, 3, or even 4 of them, but if NINE gang up on him, what’s he going to do? Shoot them? It’s not like he’d be allowed to have a gun in the classroom (although I’d say he should at least be allowed to have a TASER after this - especially if the kids are only suspended and not expelled).
These laws that protect children because they’re children are just plain stupid. Once you reach the age of 8 or 9, there are certain things that you know not to do. They know that murder and rape are wrong (and believe me - these kids know what sex is too - I remember last year 2 5th graders were caught having sex. How can 5th graders even HAVE sex? It’s nearly physically impossible). Do they know that all things are wrong? No - they probably don’t know anything about fraud or perjury, but they know basics like murder, assault, robbery, etc….
This law needs to be overturned so that when things like this happen in the future, kids can be punished (and these kids wouldn’t because you can’t pass an ex post facto law).
All I have to say is, this is one of the many reasons I’ll never be a teacher. I know I’m going to take a lot of heat for this post, so let the hateful comments begin.

i think those kids should be in a lock down dentention center until the age of 18 . i wonder if anyone has thought about there mind settings? This isn’t noramal. these kids could be mentally ill and no one is going to even do anything! so what happens in High school when they plan to shoot it up but only it doesnt get caught then? i think that teacher should have something to protect himself .Nine kids is alot had they ganged up on him !!!

Sarah, you bring up a good point. My mother recently started working as an assistant in an elementary school. Right now the school is dealing with the problem of having to mix special needs kids in with other students, so it’s her job to help anybody who needs help throughout the day. Anyway, she was telling me that one of the 2nd graders (8-years-old) has already been diagnosed with manic depression - at the age of EIGHT! I didn’t even know you could be diagnosed that early. I understand teenagers being depressed, but an eight year old.
The whole school system (especially Michigan’s and specifically Wayne County’s) needs to be revamped. Instead of teachers (Detroit) going on strike every time they want a little pay raise (and Michigan teachers are already some of the highest paid with some of the best benefits in the country), the focus should be on the students.

I just read more about this on MSNBC’s website and they quote pyschiatrists and police officers who say the kids weren’t actually going to commit the murder because little kids don’t do that sort of thing. I think it’s ludicrous to assume that because they were kids they weren’t serious about it. Maybe if the kids had made jokes about it the punishment need not be too harsh, but to the point when they bring a knife and handcuffs to school I think they are pretty serious and ought to be judged the same as anyone else who attempts, nay premeditates, the murder of another human being.

why is it every time a school or collage get shot up.. its some white kid.. yall parents need to get these kids some help… come on people…the learning starts at home!!!!! and them crazy ass kids need to be locked up.. what if they was planing to kill another student instead of the teacher.. and did so out on the play ground .. lock them kids up..

MSNBC thinks they weren’t serious? What about when a 1st grader from Flint shot and killed a classmate: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/03/07/60II/main168970.shtml
And what was the background cause? The parents! Drugs, jail time, a chaotic home - they all played a roll. Let it be known that I don’t place all the blame on these kids, a HUGE amount falls on the parents, but a 9-year-old needs to learn accountability. If we brush it off as “they’re just kids” what does that teach them?

I am a mother of three, they are grown, we didn’t have a lot I was a single mom, but I laid down boundaries and I now have a math teacher, one that is working on her Bachelor’s and working full time, and my son who trying to find himself he is 18 and the baby, but he knows how how far to go. I say cut them off from cable, take the video games and get rid of them, stop buying everything every time they cry and have a crying fit more rule you lay down the better the child you are not your child’s friend, your child is crying out for you to be a parent. Wake up people what are you raising. I can’t say that it will be easy, but we have got to start somewhere these kids are crazy and will be our next murders and criminals. These kids should and need to be punished, and they should not be allowed back at the school, think of what the other children would have to but up, thinking maybe they will turn on me, lock them up. make them pay and the parent’s need to be looked at the whole house whole what is going on. This is insane, kids are killing each other and now they want to kill a teacher because they the think they have to be told what to do.

People seem to think that just because they are third graders that they can’t commit such a horrible crime..much less think it out….kids today are alot smarter than certain people give them credit for. With todays video games, tv shows and parents that just don’t care as long as they aren’t bothering them. What happen to spending QUALITY time with our children? Reading them bed time stories, doing things as a family?? Are people really that wrapped up in themselves that they really have no clue about how to raise their kids in this day in age? What is so hard about teaching them right from wrong?
