From 12 - 22 September the University of Kent, the Institut francais and the Goethe-Institut London will join forces to celebrate and examine the cinema of Werner Herzog. Our conference on the documentary in Herzog's films, on 17 and 18 September, is at the centre of a Herzog film season. From 12 September, the Goethe-Institut will screen a range of Herzog's documentaries. Starting at the weekend of the conference, the Institut francais' Cine Lumiere will show his fiction films. For the evening of the conference opening, Werner Herzog has been invited to take part in an on-stage discussion with the film historian Thomas Elsaesser (University of Amsterdam). We very much hope that his filming schedule will permit him to join us on the occasion of the UK premiere of his latest film, The Wild Blue Yonder (2005) at the Institut francais (Cine Lumiere).
