Sever pain and CMT how do you manage with it and still live a "normal" life? No one knows how hard it is to function with chronic pain except for the CMT sufferer themselves. Living with my husband, who has CMT I am fortunate to see how he deals with sever chronic pain. These tips and techniques we would like to share with you but please remember, to ALWAYS check with your physician first before you try any of these methods to avoid any possible injury. Living with CMT, I have my bouts with sever pain. They come on, when I have been standing on my feet for 8 hours a day with only a half hour lunch break in between. I also get get tired when I have had a day of heavy physical work such as getting the Wayside House of the Author's house museum, ready for tourist season. I also do work around the actual house and sometimes just twisting my body the wrong way can cause severe pain. Here are three tips to try to soothe the pain that I use in my daily life.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tiger balm
  • Warm Bath
  • Ben Gay
Step1
When your hand and feet are in sever pain after a long day of work, sit down for a minute, then massage the area for 20 minutes or until the pain subsides.
Step2
If the messaging doesn't work, try doing some stretching and flexibility exercises for your hands and feet. I find that stretching my hands and feet relaxes and loosens the muscles in the sore area.
Step3
At the end of the day, take a good hot bath for about 30 minutes. After the bath, apply an amount of Tiger Balm or Ben Gay onto the affected area.

Tips & Warnings

  • For leg exercises please see the articles: Leg Stretches & CMT, Foot Exercises for the CMT patient. Another tip is to always try to keep yourself in a good sense of humor because it will keep you motivated to be pain free.
  • If the pain does not subside, please consult your doctor to get proper medical treatment for the pain.
