This looks like a good alternative to Squeak, with a much friendlier entry point.

Here is a fantastic, downloadable program which reflects the ideologies of Queensland's technology education essential learnings through ICTs. As a website it offers technological support, ideas for projects and a structure that is easy to navigate. Also, where school priorities allow, the site can be utilised to showcase student's work.

Teachers can employ Scratch as one aspect of an assignment, project or design challenge, teachers can then specify requirements that students must meet when creating their digital stories.

This site gives students the opportunity to display little animations that they have made. It will be useful for many of the older classrooms where students are learning to use these sorts of resourses.

Scratch is a fun and safe site which allows students to create their own stories, games and animations, and share them with others. This is a great tool for teachers looking for a design challenge involving ICTs.

Scratch is a downloadable program that enables students to create their very own interactive stories, games, pictures etc. Once completed, interactive designs can be shared with other Scratch users. Students are engaging in their higher order thinking through their unique creations and designs and it also introduces them to programming language/codes. Scratch provides the perfect opportunity for project based learning and competitions. Competitions could be created for a class or the entire school and could be extended to include other schools; locally, nationally or globally.

Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share the creations on the web. Scratch is designed to help young people (ages 8 and up) develop 21st century learning skills. As they create Scratch projects, young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the process of design.
