Area GOP officials tout choice

Hours after Sen. John McCain introduced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate, Luzerne County Republicans were praising her as an “intelligent, capable” choice.

Palin, 44, became governor of Alaska in December 2006 — the first woman and youngest person ever to hold the position. She quickly gained a reputation as a reformer, enforcing ethics regulations and limiting government spending. She now enjoys an approval rating in the state of more than 70 percent.
