La Noonan tries to get inside the heads of average Americans and fathom why on earth they would vote for a naive know-nothing like Obama. She points out that the GOP leadership in Washington is out of touch and hasn't a clue how much average Americans are tired of war, the economy, mortgage problems, gas prices, all of which seem insoluble, and in any case signal a can't-do presidency. She thinks the GOP brand name is damaged<br><br>
As usual, she isn't entirely rational, and her thoughts are pure intuitions, but there's something resonant in what she is saying, in trying to figure out why George Bush is not as popular as he should be.<br><br>
