Services offered:  Beech Hill House is a traditional Lakeland family home in an unspoilt corner of England's Lake District National Park offering non-smoking en-suite bed and breakfast accommodation in a rural location just off the A590. 8 minutes from J36 of the M6 motorway. With 2 letting bedrooms we can guarantee a warm welcome and individual service.  One room has a king size bed, en-suite bathroom and private balcony with steps leading to a private garden.  The other is a family room with a double and single bed and en-suite shower room.  For your added comfort both rooms have WiFi, a flat screen remote control colour TV with DVD/CD player, a DVD and CD library, hair dryer, clock/radio, shoe shine facilities, sewing kit, magazines, books and a hospitality tray. Open all year with the exception of Christmas, parking available, dogs welcome (dog bed, water bowl and chew provided) but sorry, we don’t have facilities for children under 5 years of age. Within easy reach of the M6 we are close to the lakes but away from the crowds.  Lake Windermere and surrounding fells, Barrow-in-Furness , Ulverston on the Lake District Peninsular and Kendal, Cark, Cartmel and Grange-Over-Sands are all just a short drive away. Directions: Leave the M6 at J36 and follow the signs for Windermere. After about 2½ miles turn left onto the A590 signposted Barrow-in-Furness . The dual carriageway turns into an ordinary road then back to dual carriageway. About ½ mile after the speed camera it turns back to dual carriageway - go into the right hand lane and turn right (signposted Bowland Bridge / Witherslack). Immediately off the dual carriageway you will cross a cattle grid and we are on the left. If you get to the Derby Arms you've gone too far so turn around and we are on the right just before the cattle grid. If you miss the turning when it turns back to dual carriageway keep going to the roundabout. Go round the roundabout and come back along the dual carriageway and our turning is the 1st on the left past the garage. Click here to go direct to the website

Hi there!   Just wanted to recommend a couple of places that we have taken the dogs to and were pleased with.   The Horizon Hotel, Ayr. www.horizonhotel.com    It's actually about 21/2 years since we stayed there, but it was good. We had 2 greyhounds and a lurcher at the time and they just slept in the room with us. It wasn't a particularly large room, but adequate. We had fantastic walks and games on the beach, which is literally on the other side of the road. Very relaxed, nobody batted an eyelid when we returned from the beach with 3 big, sandy dogs! Good food too. We stayed out of season, 'though I can't quite remember which month it was. No secure garden for doggies. I think it was around £60 per night then.   The Willow House, Watton, Norfolk. www.thewillowhouse.co.uk   We stayed there twice last autumn for one night only each time and had a different room both nights. The rooms were a good size, not plush. The bathrooms were a bit basic, but O.K. The pub has a very good reputation for food. We only had our breakfasts there and my husband, who is very fond of a cooked breakfast when away, said it was the best he had ever tasted! There is a reasonable sized park close by for walks, but only lead walks, 'though Thetford Forest is reasonably close for off the lead walks. No fuss about the dogs being there at all. The bedrooms are in a separate building to the pub and restaurant. No secure garden for doggies. £60 per night.   Red Oaks Farm B&B, Bollington, Cheshire. www.redoaksfarm.co.uk   We spent two nights there earlier this month and it was really very good. The rooms are in the family house which is large, but have a separate entrance and a small, secure, gravelled area for doggies, again separate to the owners garden. Vey nice walk through the fields and on the canal tow path. We let ours off the lead as there were no livestock in the field at the time and it is secure.We just popped them back on when we needed to. The owners are very relaxed about the dogs and were quite happy to have them nosing about their part of the set up, including their kitchen! Good breakfasts. Evening meals can be offered too. £58 per night. 'Forest Edge'. a well-equipped, centrally heated self-catering cottage in a quiet location on the edge of Dalbeattie, within easy reach of the Colvend coast, sleeps 4 humans, and offers fantastic dog walks just over the garden wall. Unfortunately the garden is not secure, and guests should be aware that our neighbour has a cocker spaniel bitch (who gets on famously with Paddy, but might not be every greyhound's cup of tea!), but dogs are definitely welcome (tho we do ask them to bring their own beds, and keep off the sofa etc., unless using their own throw or blanket!). We normally make a charge for doggy guests, but would waive this for DCGR members, and also offer a 5% discount outside peak periods. Early next year we will also start offering B&B accommodation at Croft House (Wigtown), where Paddy and Zak would be pleased to welcome other hounds - tho there's probably only room for one more at a time! Hopton House B&B View from Hopton House Hopton House B&B, Hopton Heath, Shropshire   With 1.75 acres of grounds, set in rural South Shropshire there are lots of opportunities for walking and enjoying some stunning views. There are lots of forestry commission paths nearby for safe off lead walking. Dogs are welcome to sleep in the bedrooms ( an additional charge of £5 per night for dogs staying in rooms to allow for extra cleaning ) but only in the dining room if there are no other guests. For the humans there are 2 very comfortable ensuite rooms and full shropshire breakfasts   This B&B is worth a special trip - don't wait until you have to pass through Shropshire and need to stop off!   It is run by Karen, Rob & Jessy Thorne - friends of ours - and we have only stayed as friends, however the rooms are lovely, the food is fab and the location is superb.  I've read the feedback from 'proper' guests and can only imagine that guests are made to feel as though they are in a five star hotel but with a much more intimate setting. Friendly dogs are welcome by arrangement- Axel had a great time hurtling round their paddock chasing Murphy & Mitsi - their 2 dogs (who were chasing a ball but Axel hadn't a clue what that was about). B&B Near the NEC Birmingham Recommended by one of our members who says   'We were there for a few days last week and it is 5 minutes from the NEC and 20 minutes from Central Birmingham.  Most rooms are in the converted stable annexe and you can come and go as you please. To top it off they have a working horse livery yard on site with a sand training arena which you can let your dogs loose on for a blast when empty. Not to toilet though!  It is surrounded by bridlepaths and fields and would probably make a good overnight stop for any northerners going south. The rooms and breakfasts are excellent and the landlord is a dog lover too. £60/night/room.
