The United States Department of Agriculture's Audit, Review and Compliance branch says it will indefinitely extend the use of back verification to find out the age of cattle. In October, USDA announced that it would end the use of back verification on January 1, 2008 in favor of premises of birth verification.

According to Meatingplace.com, the implementation of the program has been delayed while the ARC looks further in to the program.
