Hi all, Just hooked up a netgear PS121 print server to the network at my shop. I have a cash register running MYOB retail manager, It's a P4 Dell and a laptop (both running XP) and the netgear wireless router. It always worked great. I got the print server up and running on both the laptop and the cash register, printed out a test page from both and then printed out some stock sheets from my cash register all without a problem. The printer ran out of paper so I filled it back up. Now i cant get the bloody thing to print from either computer. I keep getting the message 'Collecting printer status' and nothing happens. I'm not sure if the printer running out of paper had anything to do with it. Would anyone know what the problem is? edit. I have had this printer for over a year and its always worked perfect connecting straight to thelaptop via usb. Edited by Tubby: 1/9/2006 4:14:20 PM -----

Turn off the status monitor in the printer software, it cannot communicate properly through a print server. ----- "rhinos are not particularly intelligent animals" Visi, veneri, vamoosi

Sometimes the print servers can just chuck a wobbly espec if the status monitor has been trying to get through it. A print server reset generally fixes this. ----- "rhinos are not particularly intelligent animals" Visi, veneri, vamoosi

Is it just me..or do computers SUCK! It seems as tho I didnt 'fix' anything at all. I've been using the printer for the last couple of days when I it ran out of paper mid way thru a 5 page document. Guess what? It the same thing as before..wont print...at all! So it seems them printer/network shits itself when an error occurs ie run out of paper and I'm assuming running out of ink... Whats could be the cause/fix? I have reset the computer and printer twice. I cannot print from either computer on the network Thanks for any help -----

Have you reset the print server itself though? Also get the latest print server wizard from http://tinyurl.com/rcg7t (tinyurled becausae the original was waaaaaaaaaaaay to long for the link to work). Also is the PS121 actually compatible with the printer? http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101216.asp and http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101216.asp#incompatible_printers Also make sure you are running static IPs on all computers and the printserver. Finally make sure your software firewalls are set to allow both incoming and outgoing communication to the printserver. ----- "rhinos are not particularly intelligent animals" Visi, veneri, vamoosi

Thanks again Aliali, I ended up paying $40 for Netgear support as it was giving me the major Tom Tits. I think you got it though with those static ip's The problem was that the Netgear router was 'blocking' access to the printer (I think thats how I explain it). I had to get into the router main page into the WAN settings and enter the ip address of the printer in the 'Default DMZ server' section. I dont really understand what thats all about, but it works perfect now.....or for the moment..lol Tought I'd better post the answer incase anyone eles has the same problem. Thanks again aliali Edited by Tubby: 7/9/2006 6:26:55 PM -----

You should also not use the standard tcpip port if this is Windows based. It has a bug that shortens remote packet calls and gives you errors like the ones you have been receiving. I would suggest adding "other network file and print services" and use the LPR port. Print services for Unix should solve the problem. Uses no remote packet calls and has been kicking around for over 20 years. Tried and true. If you want any info on setting this up let me know Regards John http://www.phpbbplanet.com/kingsway/index.php?mforum=kingsway -----
