Chinese city offers fake real? McClatchy Newspaper correspondant Tim Johnson reports how the Chinese city of Shanhaiguan near the eastern terminus of the Great Wall is rebuilding it's past to attract tourist. A billboard outside the city proclaims it the "Ancient New Town." With a military experience zone that allows tourists to dress as ancient warriors and ride horses. Another part of town will be a lantern-lit area and offer folk arts and a bird market. A third part of town will include a newly built Confucian temple. All parts will be connected by electric trams. It seems to be a lesson in real-fake authenticity or "Present the fake as beautiful."
