FAQ

Does Kedco Energy service my area?

Kedco Energy services the 32 counties of Ireland.

How long will the installation of a Kedco Boiler take?

The boiler must be housed either in a garage, boiler house or our pellet house would make a perfect offer. If your plumbing is already in an area such as this, the work that needs to be done for the installation will be minimal. Most installations should take less than a day.

Is it possible to keep my oil system and install a wood pellet boiler?

Yes. If you want you can just extend the pipes from your existing boiler to the wood pellet boiler and put valves on the oil boiler which can be manually or electronically switched.

Is there a contract and if so, what is the minimum term?

There is no contract. However to ensure you are covered under the warranty you must get your boiler serviced annually by a Kedco representative.

How does the SEI grant system work?

The grant for the installation of a wood pellet boiler is €3,000. The size of the grant is not dependent on the amount of money spent, it is paid to all approved applicants. In order to apply for the grant you must use an approved installer and boiler supplier - Kedco Energy is listed in both these categories. Once your application is processed you will receive a letter of offer from the SEI confirming that they will pay you the  completion of the install. You then place the order with your Kedco representative and when the install is complete you send in your receipts to the SEI which confirms that your installation is complete. Payment will be made electronically.

What size boiler do I require for my house?

One of our local Kedco representatives will be able to discuss your heat requirements and determine which boiler would be of most benefit to you.

Where will I get my wood pellets from?

Kedco Energy have an extensive network built with manufacturers globally thus we provide wood pellets in the form of either bagged or loose bulk thus catering for all our customers needs.

What costs are involved in the installation of my wood pellet boiler and what running costs are involved?

Apart from the purchase of a wood pellet boiler, costs include plumbing, flue and an annual service.

Why would somebody choose wood pellet over wood chip?

Wood pellets are uniform in size, shape and moisture content. They are a denser product than wood chip allowing more to be stored in a smaller area. Wood chips require a specific boiler to be able to handle variations in moisture content and non uniformity of size and shape. For a lot of domestic users space would be an issue for storing wood chips.

Where do I put my Kedco Energy boiler?

The boiler must be housed in a garage, garden shed or boiler house.

What maintenance is required on my Kedco Energy boiler?

The small ash pan must be removed from the boiler on average every four weeks, the ash is fully compostable and can be disposed of by adding it to your compost heap. We advise that you clean the boiler once every three to four months, this simply involves brushing down the panels of the boiler with the brush provided with the boiler, this will maintain the efficiency of the boiler. An annual service is required for your boiler, which can be carried out by your Kedco Energy representative.
